About WAZAO-IPPON

The theme is "If you want, it's okay if you can't catch fish. The company is an organization that explores the future of nature experiences with the theme of "It doesn't matter if you don't catch anything. The brand specializes in Japanese-made fishing tackle, mainly "wagan," a bamboo fishing rod unique to Japan, and uses fishing as a starting point to weave together the good old Japanese culture that is being lost in the modern world.

I feel that I have come a long way with a bamboo pole in one hand. Activities without economic rationality. I have been told so countless times. I have come to think of it as a compliment. Let me say that I am neither paralyzed nor desperate. I am now convinced that there are hints for the future in such activities.

This is a memory of WAZAO-IPPON's journey. In the beginning, I was just fishing. In the pursuit of fish, he learned about the richness of Japan's watershed environment, and at the same time, he was confronted with numerous contradictions regarding nature and the industry. He found himself holding a bamboo rod and searching for fishing in Japan. As his travels took him all over Japan, he gradually began to see the local people's lives. Through fishing, we learned about nature and culture, and for the first time, we felt as if we were getting to know Japan.

We began to realize that we were no longer chasing fish, and that we were not selling rods. What is WAZAO-IPPON then? Fishing is the means, and the Japanese pole is the flag. If we Japanese have left something important behind somewhere, we want to fish for it and connect it to a single pole. (WAZAO-IPPON talk 2024.1.1)
